The Aquatic Drone: Ready for Action

Projects

Royal3D is proud to announce that our 2-meter aquatic drone has successfully come out of production and is now operating in the waters of Rotterdam. This milestone represents not only the launch of a highly anticipated innovation but also a clear demonstration of how Royal3D’s cutting-edge technology is actively shaping the future of smart and sustainable maritime solutions.

The aquatic drone has been engineered with versatility and adaptability at its core. It incorporates critical developments made by the Royal Roos team, whose expertise in naval engineering, onboard electronics, and propulsion systems has been instrumental in achieving the drone’s outstanding performance.

Its main functions include port inspections, risk reduction, and data gathering, three critical pillars that contribute to safer, more efficient, and more environmentally responsible maritime operations. With its advanced capabilities, the drone provides an innovative toolset for companies, and research looking to optimize performance while minimizing risks and environmental impact.

What truly sets this innovation apart is its ability to be tailored to any mission. By integrating Royal3D’s proprietary IP knowledge and leveraging a robust modular design, the aquatic drone can be equipped with a variety of sensors, instruments, and mission-specific technologies. This ensures that it can adapt seamlessly to a wide range of operational scenarios, from routine inspections and safety monitoring to environmental research, data analysis, and beyond.

To push this innovation even further, Royal3D is collaborating with 8Dimension to integrate advanced AI technologies that will make the Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV) fully autonomous. This partnership marks a significant step toward realizing a new generation of intelligent, self-operating maritime systems capable of real-time decision-making and adaptive mission execution.

The launch of this aquatic drone also underlines Royal3D’s broader vision of accelerating innovation in the maritime sector. By combining advanced 3D printing knowledge with commitment to sustainability, Royal3D aims to support ports and maritime stakeholders worldwide in reducing risks, increasing efficiency, and embracing smarter, greener practices. The drone’s entry into operation at the Port of Rotterdam highlights both the trust in our technology and the growing demand for intelligent solutions that respond to global challenges in safety, logistics, and environmental stewardship. In parallel, DronePort Rotterdam is partnering with Royal3D to support the testing and operational validation of the USV in real-world port environments.

This project fully demonstrates that achieving a fully functioning, next-generation USV requires cross-industrial collaboration. By uniting the strengths of Royal3D, 8Dimension, DronePort Rotterdam, and Royal Roos, we are proving that innovation thrives at the intersection of technology, engineering, and sustainable design. The aquatic drone is more than a product - it is a platform for innovation, a catalyst for safer operations, and a symbol of the maritime industry’s ongoing transition to smarter, more sustainable solutions.
