PRINTING OF 3D HULL MODEL FOR MODEL TESTING AT MARIN

CFAM PRINTING OF MARINE STRUCTURES FOR MODEL TESTING

For a model test of a ship’s hull Royal3D will print a scale model to perform a model test at MARIN in Wageningen.

The accuracy of the model shall be high (accuracy <0.5%) to be able to accurately perform model tests. Hull outfitting, appurtenances and openings are added. Dimensions of the model are about 2.5 x 1.4 x 0.8 m and it can be printed in one piece.

The complete scope of work - apart from CNC-machining - is done in-house and includes engineering, strength calculations, material selection, compartmentalization, adding lifting points for transport to and from MARIN, fine-tuning CoG and inertia characteristics and of course making sure the model behaves comparable to the real vessel when out at sea.

This is an example of a turn-key project where we combine engineering with 3D-printing to provide solutions to our customers.
